"sims 3 has stopped working"

again

*sighs*

it turns out I can only install ONE item a day that I have downloaded

I guess its time to take my new pc in to see if something is wrong with it. I just wish my computer guy played sims so he would know what I'm talking about.

I swear if I lived close to an expert simmer, I'd take my computer to them!

  • This can't really be related to the fps issue prior.

Does it happen in different buildings or only one? Do you have a way to temporarily remove the public room markers in such a way that where you are placing the fireplace is just for the moment all within the active apartment unit or does the required chimney prevent that from working?

Different players have different experiences with those cheats and when working with different kinds of objects in such build situations. Personally I keep restrictbuildbuy off most of the time as I'm always reaching for that one when playing apartments, but only activate MOO when I absolutely need to (which is rare) and switch it off again as soon as I can. In particular I never save the game (on purpose) with MOO on. Never have crashes, but then I've never tried to position a fireplace in particular on an apartment lot outside of the active unit, or at least I can't remember doing so right now. I could try that and report back, when I do get a chance, but that wouldn't really be conclusive either way. :/
  • Hi,

It was in the active apartment. The lot was a Leo Tower in Bridgeport. You know that both One and Two Leo Towers have one side open and one side with walls which are part of the building itself and cannot be deleted. The back of the fireplace was in the part of the building which cannot be deleted because it is part of the image of the lot.

I've done that a lot of times in those buildings because these two are the ones I liked the most and I've always lived in them. I really don't know why suddendly I get this error, that's why I think it's because of the last patch. I should test this issue more thoroughtly. I'll try to do that in regular lots.

This game is driving me nuts with all the try and error...
  • Sometimes I just have to step back and say, "Okay, the game wins this one" when it puts up more of a fight than I am willing to engage it in order to get something done. Just a thought, if you have a saved game already where you have altered those tower buildings to how you like them, could you not copy those lots down to the bin and replace the ones in your current game with the already fireplaced copies or does that not work either?

But I can still try to do what you are attempting in-game at some point this weekend just to see what happens on my end.
  • My game is still crashing. I really don't know what happens. It seems random... I tried everything.... I've even reinstalled the operating system...

Maybe it is time to say goodbye to TS3???
  • @mcorral - Reinstalling the operating system seems awfully extreme unless there were other system related issues happening outside of the game or new hardware was being introduced. So you then reinstalled the entire game and arranged for its fps capping from the beginning, as before?

There are tons of things beyond that we can do to help improve the game's stability and reliability. That others can continue to play it successfully on hardware sets not nearly as strong as yours suggests they may have been a path between features and content that don't work right and system overload vs. performance that you hadn't yet found. Some of the things mentioned here, including but not limited to usage of NRaas mods like Overwatch, ErrorTrap, Traffic, and the others in the left column and seeking assistance from us with any error script logs that ErrorTrap produces, may have been helpful.

The game is very complex with many moving parts and features that do not work correctly for all players. It is over-extended. was not optimized well during its development, and due to it being a 32-bit only application, there is a hard limit of <4 GB of RAM usage that no one can overcome no matter how much RAM they have installed. Part of the puzzle becomes making sure that no matter what we do, the game's RAM usage always stays well below that limit.

The question for many players faced with a misbehaving game or one that isn't performing up to expectations that is not strictly due to hardware being too weak to work with or RAM usage overload becomes, is it worth the time to work through these things and find out where the unexpected random crashes are coming from and solve/avoid them or is it time to move on to something else. For some the answer will be yes, for others there can be a point of diminishing returns beyond which the game becomes more of a source of frustration than fun. I guess only you can determine if you have reached that point yet.
