'.exe not a valid Win32 application'?

I've had Sims 3 for about 2/3 years now and for some reason, it's stopped working today for the first time since I bought it. It now only gives me this message 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Game\Bin\Sims3Launcher.exe is not a valid Win32 application' and won't open.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the base game and my expansion packs, but it still won't work, does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this?

  • Did you change anything ? Install a patch or anything else ?

Try to start the game as an administrator

None of that worked for me: running as an administrator, changing windows versions, running straight off the disc. And I don't see a patch that covers this situation.

  • I recently found I suffered from the same problem.  I solved it by reinstalling the base game in a different directory from the original install.  I hope this is useful for you.  Good Luck.
