Sims 3 launcher keeps crashing PC

I've tried everything including:

  • clearing the cache
  • new windows
  • reinstalled the whole game
  • checked all my drivers and windows updates
  • repaired the game

EA aren't interested in helping me so I thought I'd ask here it is doing my head in. I managed to open the game once and when I needed to restart the game surprise surprise it wouldn't open. It either opens but doesn't properly open and glitches and crashes or it flashes open then shuts itself down.

I am on a gaming PC with more than enough specs to play this game so I am confused why it won't work. I've also tried removing all my mods and cc nothing makes a difference.

Everything EA have told me to do I have done and nothing has worked. So does anyone have any ideas? Thank you in advance.

  • ilovemycat95  Have you tried a completely clean user folder yet?  If not, please do so now:  Move the entire Sims 3 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop.  When you open the launcher, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  (Your saves and other content will be intact in the folder you've moved but temporarily unread by the game.)  Don't add anything to the new folder yet; just start a new save and see how it runs. that is if you can get that far.

If that doesn't help, please provide a dxdiag.  Click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.

  • Hi ilovemycat95,

have you tried the game on another computer?

That's really annoying. You could try the Custom Launcher from MTS; that might be the solution to your problem.

    Otherwise, please post your dxdiag.

Hey, I've tried that but it keeps closing the game down, sometimes I can open the launcher now but it keeps flashing open then closing down or I can open the game play for a short time then it crashes. I've attached the dxdiag thing I'm sorry I am not good at technical stuff 😂

  • ilovemycat95  Some of the Sims 3 errors in your dxdiag point to the 2005 VC++ x86 runtime, which the game uses, so start by uninstalling and reinstalling that.  Open Windows Settings > Apps, scroll down to the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables, click the 2005 version (it won't say x86, but it's the right one as long as it does NOT say x64), and uninstall it.  You can get a fresh copy here:

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=26347

You only need the x86 version, not the other two.  Restart your computer after installing the runtime and before trying to play.

If that doesn't help, please reinstall DirectX 9 as well, as described here:

    Heyilovemycat95,

I‘m not sure if you gave me an answer to my question so I‘ll ask again: did you tried the Sims 3 Custom Launcher from LazyDuchess (MTS)?
