I'm having the same problem. I had to apply the superpatcher because it wouldn't update through the launcher, and now whenever I try to start the game, it sits at a black screen forever and then crashes. No error message. I've tried taking out the Sims 3 folder and putting it back, bypassing the launcher.. everything. Anyone have a fix?
