Am I missing something

Thank you Puzzlezaddict for your response.  Sorry for the delay in my return for I wanted to test my memory.  I got out my old computer and played the game with only the base game and World Adventures, the version is 2.0.86.002002, (CD copy). I was able to play without problem and it was as I had remembered. In the game that I first posted, I do have several Nraas mods including Master Controller, Master Controller Cheats and Traveler.   I have tried breaking into locked areas of tombs in prior games and the result has never been satisfactory. Following you suggestion I broke into the first area.  I was able to go though the whole tomb. However, I was not able to find the next link in the chain.  So I broke into next area.  Again I was able to go though the whole tomb. I was not able to find the aim of the quest.  In order to make sure I had not left any area undiscovered I use the cheats to gain buy/built mode and looked over the whole area.  I have not as of yet tried to reassign steps in the chain.  I have had a look at the list and am not sure which I should pick.  Also as with the repeated play throughs many steps are jumped, any reassigned step may simply be jumped again.
