I purchased ambitions through origin and downloaded it. I have the sims 3 base game and have had no problems playing it. However, once I downloaded ambitions, I could no longer launch my basegame. My sims 3 base game is patched to the latest update and ambitions is patched through to 4.5 because when I tried to patch it to 4.6 I kept getting an error message during the download so I was on able to patch ambitions to 4.5. I spent several hours chatting with an ea rep who finally gave up. I have kingdom of amalur, resident evil, sim city 4, and sims 3 base game. I can play all of them with no problem. It is only ambitions that is giving me problems. I am using windows 7

are you using a combo of disc and download? If so you still need the disc to play. Your game should be patched to 1.67.have you downloaded Origin? You need orgin to play and patch the game. thanks for replying. My base game is patched to 1.67. However, I could only patch ambitions to 4.5 because there was a downloading error on patch 4.6. I'm still not sure though why it wont work. I bought both games, base game and ambitions through origin via pc download. they both installed fine. It's just now when I try to click my base game to play ambitions, the game will not launch. the launcher disappears but nothing happens. Is there anything else that could be causing this problem? Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

Now that we have origin you don't need to patch any EP's only that the base game is patched to 1.67.. Were you trying to patch ambitions manually? If so you don't need to do that. This maybe your problem.Scroll down to the bottom of the web it will tell you how to uninstall ambitions only manuallyhttp://help.ea.com/en/article/manually-uninstalling-the-sims-3/Then do a clean install and dont patch ambitions.

Sorry. (My mother tongue is German so it's not always easy to explain what I mean)

The base game and every expansion should have their own paul.dll. It seems that for some, an outdated version gets installed to one of the expansions and then you can't start the game. If seems this is the case for you for ambitions.

It's a little difficult to explain since I don't know where you have your games installed. Do you have a separate folder for Ambitons ? Since your exe for ambitions seems to be in a folder called packs, I'm confused. Did Origin install it there or did yo make such a folder ?

What you basically do is replace the paul.dll for Ambitions with the one in the base game. Don't delete the one from ambitons, must move it.

So if I know where your files are installed, it might be a bit easier to explain.

Thanks again. I was speaking with an EA tech person who seems to think that my processor is not fast enough to handle the expansion packs. I became frustrated and uninstalled ambitions. However, I may install it and just try your suggestion to see what happens. Anyhow, thanks for taking the time to help me.
