"Cannot intersect object" with seemingly non-existant objects.

When trying to move objects or when my sims try to move/use object, I am having problems with seemingly invisible objects.  For example, when trying to use the dishwasher, my sims react as if there is something in front of it when in fact the only thing in front of it is open space, any ideas?
