Can't Perform Singing Telegrams

I am getting the messages when a Singing Telegram is available, but my character isn't able to perform them.  When I click on the button in the message or the icon in town view nothing happens.  It doesn't show up in the queue or it is there for a second or two before disappearing.  I also have a problem with the opportunity when my agent sends me to eat at a restaurant.  No matter how many times I eat there the opportunity never completes.
