can't save graphics changes

I have  Windows 8 installed on my computer (long story short- to be able to use all 6gb of RAM on an old computer).  I also upgraded my CPU and my graphics card to a GeForce GTX 660 ti.  So far I have installed Sims 3, WA, LN, and Pets.  I was able to create a household with just 3 installed and it seemed fine (didn't go to town or leave the house).  I noticed when I did go to town the town is all white with little markers showing.  In Bridgeport and Appaloosa Plains I can create a household but they do not show up at the main menu.  All of my graphics are set to low and advanced rendering is disabled.  When I try to change anything it will not save.  I opened notepad in the deviceconfig. as I saw on another website but there is nothing there.  I am thinking that the game is not recognizing my graphics card?  Can anyone give me an idea of how  to fix this?  Thanks so much

    I had the same problem and I found the method to fix it : Go into your Sims(original game) folder,  now go where .exe files are (Bin). You will see a TS3W.exe file, open his properties (of the file of course), and select "Run as an administrator" and "Windows XP SP3 compatibility" options and run the game.

    I tried the simswiki solution.  That is how I found that when I opened notepad, as he did, there was nothing.  I am dual booting so I checked it under Windows 7.  The card showed up in that one.  In Windows 8 it just says Options and that is it.  I'm sure I can't just cut and paste from the Win 7 so how can I put in the info.  When I try to change any of the options in the game nothing sticks.  I have tried several times.   It does stick on the Win 7 side.  Thanks for your help

    I uninstalled all and reinstalled.  When I tried the base game everything was fine.  I checked the deviceconfig file and my card showed up perfectly.   As soon as I installed an EP (tried LN, Generations, and Pets) it goes back to the problem.  The deviceconfig file goes blank except for the word options and I can no longer save changes.  I also noticed that when I open up the EA file only the base game shows up as well as when I check the Nvidia control panel. I can not even see the town in the base game.  I have no problem with the Windows 7 side of the computer.

    Thank you so so so so so so much, me and my brother were trying to figure out what was wrong with it for ages until we gave up but then we saw what you wrote and tried it like that! You have made me the most happiest person alive! 😃 xx
