Characters Unselectable and frozen

have you tried the reset all sims cheat to reset all sims ctrl+shift+c hold all 3 together in the menu bar that appears at the top of the screen type in resetsim *   (inculding the * hit enter ) this will reset all sims inculdeing your own

what do you mean there is no option to saving the household and moving them out or splitting them up ? there are a couple of ways to do that  your sims use the sims phone or computer option real estate and travel option move  to move them out move out to a new house in the world you play in or move to another world to play in sim the other way is to go to the three dots-edit town click on your household and you can save them to the libiary and or split them up and or merge them to another house and or in some case the out move move back in helps some helps to fix some things by the move out move back in you in edit town click on your sims house then select move out then your family will be in the top left corner ( a.k.a.the clipboard) then click on the family in the corner and click on your house to move them back in

I did try "reset sim" for all of the sims. It did not work. 

I can't see any of the sims pictures. On the left hand side you can see a photo of each family member...but those are all gone now. I can see one sim at a time (the last sim I played with before the freeze) but If I move the cursor over them it doesn't show their name/celebrity level like normal. I can't see their moods, family tree, traits, NOTHING is there. I can tell the sim to do something but they never move and I can't cancel the actions either. I can't see their cell phone to move them out but even if I could see it, they still wouldn't move.

I loaded an older game and I got happy since they were moving around like normal and I could see them. I sent them on vacation to China and as soon as it was done loading they were frozen just like the other sims.

I just deleted everything again and uninstalled all of my games. EA should answer me, this is a serious problem.

• Try changing the active family to something else and then back
• Move the family out and back in via edit town
• Load a Backup
• Move the family to a new town

I've done the save backup, double saving in two places, moving them from present to the future, moving them to a new town, deleted entire save games and started new ones, uninstalled and reinstalled the base game and all of the expansion packs, launched without any custom content....I have no idea what else to do. I started trying to connect with a game advisor on 3/15 but the wait time is ridiculous. It says 10-15 mins then changes to 10-30mins but I've waited for an hour already and still no one thats why I said they need to respond to me. I know this is just for other players but has anyone else really had this exact problem? I built a computer just for PC games, there is zero lag time and it has tons of space. I've got the patches, no mods, no crazy content downloads or corrupt files....what is going on? There were absolutely no problems until I sent my sim to college.

Oh, I forgot to mention....there are no green squares. There is nothing to suggest there are any sims in my household even though I had four of them. The panel that lets you view their traits, jobs, moods can't be opened when I press the blue arrow. I can switch from live to buy and build mode and I can do anything I want to the house. I can see the part of the panel that controls buy/build and the camera angles and everything but not one option for controlling a sim. Cheats don't work on the sim I can see. Normally I can active "moveobjects" and actually move my sim around but it doesn't even register that there is a sim there. Its like I've loaded a game without choosing an active household which is impossible. Time passes by like normal, npc characters live their day to day but no one interacts with the one sim I can see because it's like she doesn't exist. No matter what household I enter, its the same. I chose one of the families that was already in the town to see if it would play but like I said, the active household is just gone/frozen after I try to do anything.

I know this top is pretty old, but this is actually the same exact issue I'm having and it's really making me mad. The last game I saved, everything was fine! I last had the selection on my toddler who was sleeping. I turn on my game, it loads fine and everything....but my sims are now all unselectable and frozen and all their money is gone! The weird thing is, I can still buy stuff and place it, but none of my sims will move. My sims have a butler, who when I last left him, was mopping up the floor. Well, now that my sims are just frozen in the last spot I left them, that sim is forever mopping up a floor! I did a system restore on my computer, tried to play without custom content, heck I even switched to a different house and had the same issue! Just like OP, none of the portraits are there, none of their needs, nothing it's like everything was wiped and I do not know why. I need help, because I do not want to have to reset everything and have it not even work!

Download enable debug mod from modthesim. Use a different household to visit that sim and select add to family. It will be selectable and stop the freeze.

i tried the resetsim* cheat & it didn't work for me but i can always reset the game but i don't want to lose all my work

see if any of these will work for you

1  start your game then save as new name then try the edit town save a copy of the family to the library  and start a new game to see if all is well with them

2  start your game then save as new name then try the edit town save a copy of the family to the library  and  in the top left will be your family like a  clipboard image  delete that then place the saved copy of the family from the library back into the lot  

3 from edit town switch to a new family then back to game save as new name then back to edit town click on your family lot that they live in and save a copy of them to the library

the Sims will keep the skills they have and friendships they have with each other and any items in the inventory but you'll be starting with the wishes and maybe building up friendships up around the the town again
