I'm as well having issues with my game crashing! Specifically about 10 mins into playing, it completely shuts down without warning - no rainbow cursor or anything. I've tried playing without pets in my household, as well as keeping my laptop elevated so it's able to cool. I'm not really sure what's going on.
@jomiller44 Please attach your deviceconfig.log, in Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 3. You'll neeed to manually open the folders; the file won't show up in a search. You can delete your user and computer names, about 25 lines down, but there's nothing else in that file that can identify you.
I've got a similar issue that I'm not sure I've seen posted anywhere.
My game sometimes loads up when launched with no troubles and goes right into the game.
But more often than that, I hit the play button and it opens a window like it's going into the game but it's just my desktop in an altered screen with a rainbow cursor. I "repaired" the game a few times and that worked at first but now not even that is working.

@musicisforlife97 Have you tried playing on the minimum settings, with the game in windowed mode? As the poster immediately below you mentioned, it might be enough to simply play in windowed mode—hit cmd-enter to switch at the Main Menu—but if not, please try lowering your other settings as well.
If that doesn't help, please move your entire Sims 3 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop. When you launch the game, a clean folder will spawn with no content. Don't add anything to it yet; just see whether you can load a new save properly; it's a good idea to test a few times, to see whether the problem recurs at all.

I would try to minimize the screen and minimize the graphics and all that but the game literally won't even launch for me anymore lol.
I hope EA fixes it soon.
@musicisforlife97 You can at least put the game in windowed mode by editing options.ini, in Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 3. Set fullscreen to 0, and the game should start in windowed mode, that is if it starts at all.
I still think it's worth trying to launch the game from a clean Sims 3 folder though, since it sounds like your launcher might not be cooperating either.
