I bought the game today and played for a little over an hour creating a new family and house. I then saved and quit and came back to play two hours later. I tried loading the family I had just created and got this message "A serious error has occurred while loading 'family name'. It is strongly recommended that you restart the application." I have closed the game and restarted it multiple times and restarted my computer completely too. It still does not work. I also tried creating a new family in one of the worlds and got the same error just for trying to load a world. If needed I have the Sims 3, seasons, supernatural, and pets.
