EA APP- Sims 3 Launcher loads, but game fails to run - Windows 11

Issue: Sims 3 fails to play on Windows 11 using new EA App.  Launcher opens but game fails to play

Fresh installation on new PC running Windows 11

Specs:

Installation of Sims 3  originally installed Origin which auto updated, then forced an update to the new EA app.
EA app installed
I opened the EA App and selected download  of only the Sims 3 base game

I hovered over Sims 3 and clicked play

It starts the launcher

When I press play, the launcher disappears. and asks me if I want to allow this app to make changes to your device. I click yes
It briefly connects to the EA App then tells me, "The Sims 3 is already running, Go ahead and start playing. It's a good one."

and that is it.  No game appears.

The Task manager shows this:

The EA background service is running

TS3.exe is not running in the background

I waited to see if it would appear after a certain time but nope. Nada. nothing.  Just the ea app page.

Can you give me a link to fix the original game install so it bypasses origin setup and upgrade to the EA APP, so I can install it locally without all this redirect via EA's new app?  I have every single add on. It is an expensive game when you consider how much we pay out for all the add ons.. I'd like to play it.

I did not install all the add ons because I had trouble with installing SIms 4 (I have all those add ons too)  For SIms 4 I removed everything and started from scratch and just loaded the base game, made sure it ran THEN installed all my add ons.

For Sims 3 I can't even run the base game.

I tried to run just one CPU but that did not allow the game to load either. It just repeats that the game is running.

Thank you for your help.

  • @porkypine90  First of all, you're going to need to use the EA App to launch Sims 3, that is unless you own disc copies of the base game and all your packs, or you own the content in Steam.  If you've installed via Origin or the EA App, the EA App will have to be running.

Additionally, please keep limiting Sims 3 (TS3.exe) to one CPU core while you're testing—this is the most reliable way, if also the most inconvenient, to get around the Alder Lake problem.  If you'd prefer another approach, please wait until the game is working to switch methods.

For the issue itself, please set exceptions in your antivirus for TS3.exe and EADesktop.exe.  If you only use Windows Defender, check whether Controlled Folder Access is enabled.  If it is running, either disable it or set those same exceptions.

If this doesn't help, create a new admin Windows account and try playing in that.  Make it local, as in, don't sign into Microsoft, and don't sync with any other services you normally use.  You'll be able to (try to) launch Sims 3 without reinstalling anything.
