Error During Startup

Anytime I try to load my Sims 3 game from the library, I keep getting a pop up that says, "There was an error during startup. Please see Log for more details." I'm not tech savvy, so I'm not sure what to do. I can't tell if EA removed the game from my library and I would have to re-purchase it, which is really upsetting. I have no expansion packs or stuff packs. Just the base game, and that's gone.

Help?

  • @ErodaCanyon  In your EA App game library, do you see Sims 3?  If so, click it and select Manage > View properties, then let me know whether any of your packs are listed.  Please also let me know whether you've installed any packs on this computer that the EA App currently doesn't think you own.

The "error during startup" is often due to missing or corrupt registry entries, so you might need to do a clean uninstall of the game.  But it will be useful to know the current state of your account first.

I do see it in my library, and there are no packs listed since I don't own any packs, just base game. I haven't installed any packs on this computer either.

Update: I tried uninstalling the game like you said, but it won't even allow me to uninstall it. I'm not sure what's going on.

@ErodaCanyon  Please uninstall the game using Revo Uninstaller (the free version is fine).  I wrote this guide for Sims 4, but the process is the same:

    https://answers.ea.com/t5/PC/CURRENT-ISSUE-Sims-4-DLC-shows-as-installed-won-t-load-in-game/m-p/12942151#uninstall

It's worth uninstalling the EA App as well since you're using Revo anyway.  And please do reinstall the game into a new folder that you create for this purpose, as noted in the guide.

I did everything from the guide, step by step, and the error message is still coming up.

@ErodaCanyon  Please create a new admin Windows account and try playing there.  Make it local, as in, don't link it to your Microsoft account or any email address.  You'll be able to (try to) launch Sims 3 without reinstalling anything.

If that doesn't help either, please let me know what antivirus you use and whether it's showing any recent actions involving Sims 3 or the EA App.  Please also let me know if you use some kind of cleaner app to delete temporary files.

So, I did as you said and it still didn't work. I use both Windows Security, and McAfee Security Scanner and both didn't mention anything in relation to the sims 3 or EA. I use Reno's cleaner app to scan and clear the cache as well.

Update: I did a bit more research and managed to find the error and fixed it! Thank you so much for the assistance!
