Error: Invalid argument

So for several days, when I open the launcher, I get this.

! An error has occurred on the script of this page

Line: 1061
Char: 4
Error: Invalid argument.
Code: 0
URL: http://lvlt.thesims3.com/js/jquery-1.3.2_ver928421.js

I can click both yes and no, and the game will run.
After that though, the black window appears and the top bar says "The Sims3 Supernatural (Not Responding)"
I can not exit this window, so eventually the game does load.  Keyword eventually.  It takes anywhere from 15 minutes to over an hour, to never.
Once in the game, things work fine for the most part.  No freezing, everything is where it's supposed to be, but once I try to save and exit, it becomes unresponsive again.  I have to restart my computer completely to even exit out of the game.  I have also tried exiting the game without saving, but that also doesn't work.
I have done everything that I know to do.  Removed all CC and mods, updated the game, cleared chaches, and backups.
I tried to contact EA, but the only option was to recieve a phone call IF you live in the U.S., which I do not.

So, some details.  I have a 9 month old Windows 8 laptop that is used only for Sims (so not clogged with gigs of music or pictures.  All I have is the EPs and CC).  I have Ambitions, Generations, Pets, and Supernatural EP installed.  Updated the game yesterday.  I live in Indonesia.

Everyone says these script errors don't affect gameplay, but this problem only started when the script errors started, sooo......

Hey everyone, thanks so much for the responses.  So just for reference if anyone else is seeing this.  I did have Java, Adobe, and IE all up to date, and it was still crashing.

Yesterday, I read how to bypass the launcher.  Believe it or not, that seemed to do the trick.  I was able to play for several hours without any interruption, enter CAS, Edit Town, travel around, switch households, everything with zero issues or even unreasonable loading times.

I can't comment on how long it took to load or save the game, because over the past few days of dealing with this issue, I've gotten in the habit of leaving the game to do its thing while I go make a snack.

I hope this helps anyone else who was having this problem.

try right click the origin shortcut icon If you have origin downloaded run as admin right click the base game icon run as admin

also for the base game + each expansion/stuff pack you have right click the game icon-properties-compatibility mode run this program for windows XP service pack 3 or windows 7

Thanks for the response, but no, this didn't help at all.

I ran DxDiag for anyone to check out, and perhaps someone can figure this out.  It seems that there are A LOT of people having this same problem right now.

don't worry about the length of the post

1  ) the processor is below the recommended specs yours is 2.1 recommended is 2.40 and at the least 4GB RAM

2 ) notebooks are not made for gaming, especially for heavy games like pets, and or island paradise

3 ) a driver is from 2013 you might need to run a windows up date too or thats the last time intel released an update for your chip

4 ) CC if third party content can cause can cause issues with the game too

5 ) the more packs you have and the more download  content items be it third part y CC or sims 3 store store items the harder the computer has to work

you can try lower your settings in the game options if you wish to see if it it'll make  a difference

and you should also check to see if adobe flashplayer and java are up to date too and your running the latest version of IE

@roberta591   @Andromache2013   any input/tips/advise here please and thank you both in advance

I'm getting the same error, it stared on the 16th, so it's been a week today that the game is completely unplayable. I sent my Dx info to EA and they said my system wasn't the problem. I was actually talking to over 2 hours and nothing they suggested helped.

Mine also just takes me to a black screen, I guess from what you said it will load eventually, but I have never waited that long. Maybe 5 minutes at the most.

Try restting the game - follow this link - how to reset TS3. I don't think the script error is causing the game to crash. It may be some bad data in the user data files. Following the instructions in the provided link will make the game think you just installed it. If you still have the problem further trouble shooting will be necessary.

The error is gone, and now the game starts up fine again. I did nothing, I read somewhere it was something EA had to fix(might have been on this site). I was checking it about every hour and when I checked at 9pm EST, it was gone I hit play and the game started like normal. I don't know how, but I do think the two were related.
