Failure to redeem code

I got a promotion code, and instructions on how to redeem it. But it doesn't work, and I don't know for what game it is.

  1. I have an origin account, and I log into it.
  2. I go to "my account: redeem code" and enter the code.
  3. There is an error message that says: "We're sorry, this code cannot be redeemed here. Please redeem your code at the following site:https://www.thesims3.com/registeragame.htmlFAQ". See picture.
  4. If I click on "FAQ", there is a small window that I can't use, see picture.
  5. If I follow the link to the sims instead, and I get to a Sim3 home page with a request to login picture.
  6. Now, the question is if this is the same login as Origin? I try with the Origin account. There is no error message, but I don't think I succeed to login: picture.
  7. So I chose the option to join with a new account instead. However, I get the message ""Welcome back", requesting my password, which indiciates I already have an account. picture.
  8. It looks to me as if I have an account, but it is not the same as the Origin account. So I press the link "I forgot my password". Now, I get back to an Origin login page! picture.

A this point, I gave it up.

  • OK, thanks for all the details. Good error report!

I assume you bought the Sims 3 or some expansion pack and then got the code to redeem the extra content. Did you ever make an account on thesims3.com ?

Usually if you buy a Sims 3 game on Origin, it auto-registers on your thesims3.com account or creates one with the same login data.

Now since you couldn't login with the data, check if your account is connected to a Sims3 account.

You can do so in your Origin account. If they are connected, it should look like this:

If they are not connected, contact customer support as suggested above.

If they are, I would reset that password on Origin and then try logging in again.

    Thank you for the suggestion!

However, I never bought Sims 3, and I never made an account on thesims3.com. I got the code (from EA) with no information on what to use it for, except to redeem it at origin.com.

It was probably an error to to send this code to me, presuming I had a sims 3 game already. But for now, I can't find out if it is a code for an expansion pack, or if it actually is a code for a game installation that simply isn't handled correctly. And I can't find any way to tell EA support that they have an error in the registration process.

Yeah, if you don't own the Sims 3, it's a but obscure what's it for.

Customer Support can be found here: https://help.ea.com/contact-us/ask

Choose a category, a game and a platform for the contact options to show up.

If live chat is gray, change your country to US and make sure you're on US Business hours. It might also gray because they're very busy. Try later.

See this post if you have trouble with the site: http://sims3.crinrict.com/en/2012/10/how-to-contact-ea.html
