There are three type of downloads for custom content that are created by Third Party Developers.
The first two are the most common.
(.sim3pack files) - have the same file extension as content from the store or the exchange and must be placed in the Downloads folder and installed via the launcher. See my image above. I don't like (.sims3pack) files because they're a pain to install/uninstall. I don't have many from 3PCC creators. Plus I don't like the fact that it is mixed with my store items. I prefer to keep my original store stuff and 3PCC items separated.
(.package files) - most 3PCC Dev create these and those are place in the Packages sub-folder. I prefer these because I don't have to mess with that stupid launcher from Hades.
(.sim files) - are exactly what it says... Sims. Anything with the (.sim) file extension is placed in the SavedSims folder whether it's 3PCC or a sim you've created in your game.
