Screen freeze and game shutdown

So, I've had The sims 3 for awhile. I've had Pets without issues but two days ago I got Seasons and Generations too and now everything is crap. The game freeze but i'ts like the game is still on in the background. For example. the water moves and the music is on. The freezing happens for like 2 MINUTES at a time and like every 30 seconds. I've reached out to EA because this is pissing me off.

  • I have an Acer 2GB computer that I play on. Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-7200U CPU @ 2.50GHz   2.70 GHz with 64-bit operative system. I have Windows 11.
  • I've got NVIDIA for high-performance processor, 4GB patch, window mode for easier gameplay for the system, NRaas overwatch + ErrorTrap, lowered graphics settings, reduced sim count and lowered everything that could fail the system.
  • I also have "repaired" the games a few times, updated to the last version out there and tried to turn of for example Seasons and just played with Pets and Generations, still doesn't work.

I have tried everything and it still doesn't work. Have I paid all of this for nothing? I mean whatelse can I try? I need help. I'm still waiting for EA's help but I fear they'll only say like most creatives "it can happen, there's nothing we can do". So I ask here as well..

Any help would be much appreciated.

  • TanniB  Adding more packs to an existing save shouldn't break it.  However, Seasons is the second-most-demanding expansion, after Pets, and your computer's hardware is a bit below the specs needed to run Pets and Seasons together without issues.  It's possible that the addition of weather has pushed things past the tipping point.

However, that's not definitive, and there are certainly some steps you can take to try to get the game running better.  First, your laptop's page file is somewhat small, and since you have the free storage to increase it, I would do that now.  Here's how (option three):

    https://www.elevenforum.com/t/manage-virtual-memory-paging-file-in-windows-11.8618/#Three

Set the minimum to 12288 and the max to 16384, and restart your computer.

Additionally, try playing with your laptop offline.  You can sign into the EA App and put it in offline mode, then disable wifi and/or disconnect the ethernet cable before pressing Play.  If this helps, you can test with your computer online but the EA App offline.

If you're still getting lag, let me know.  Your dxdiag lists three different kinds of Sims 3 errors, two of which are generic enough, at least in this context, to not be helpful.  The other type is a crash of the Nvidia graphics driver, and while that's concerning, the fact that it doesn't happen all the time suggests the driver itself might be fine and it's more about the load on the GPU.

  • TanniB  What world are you playing in, and what is the weather currently like?  Does the game run better in a new save in Sunset Valley?  Please test for comparison's sake.

For reference, please also provide a dxdiag.  Click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.

I'm playing in Appaloosa Plains and it's currently summer. But I can try moving to Sunset Valley and see what happens but then all the progress will be lost, maybe I can create a new family just to try..
..and I've done the dxdiag. Do you want me to sent it here?

  • TanniB  Playing in Sunset Valley is just a test; I'm not saying you need to ditch your current save.

And yes, I would like you to attach your dxdiag to a reply here, as mentioned.

I tested in Sunset Valley and it kinda worked. It doesn't freeze as often and if it does it's for like 5sek. But in case I want to go back or something or if it happens again I have attached the dxdiag here.
Is there something in there that might cause the problem or was it simply because I had the family created before I got Generations and Seasons?

Ohhh, I see. I'll try playing a long game and see what happens. Otherwise I'll try all these things and let you know.
Thank you so so much for your help!😊
