If you have the box version, you don't really need Origin.
Try closing it and then installing the game.

When I close it nothing happens. I tried to manually run the installation but every time I did it Origin was opening first.

So when you have Origin closed, the setup does not even start ?
(I never had Origin installed on my machine and I was able to install the box version just fine).

Yes, the setup of the game doesn't want to start. Only setup of Origin works.

What OS are you on ? I'm really at loss here.
Usually when you put in the DVD, the autorun starts the setup and after you're done installing the game, it asks you if you want to install Origin.
I'm going to bed now so maybe someone else can help you.

I wonder if the setup needs a internet connection (which is really stupid). I never tried offline.
Maybe Customer Support can tell you if a Internet Connection is required to install the game or why you are seeing this issues

This is the exact problem I am having. Customer service has given me two different takes on this based on the three times I called them. The first two were stumped and said exchange it with the retailer and try again. That being all I could get, that's what I tried. Same problem. The third call to customer service yeilded the answer that this was a "new convenient feature" requiring online activation. I really hope she is mistaken about that.
The product I purchased was "The Sims 3 plus Season" wihch comes with a disc for the base game as well as a Seasons expansion disc. This being the most recent EP to The Sims 3, it wouldn't be surprising if this is in fact a new implementation to the base game disc. Though it does not say on the game case that online activation is required.
Well... Yeah. I'm upset about that.
