i cant open the sims 3 live mode after opening build/buy

My sims 3 game won't open in live mode. When i was playing my sims 3, i decided to go into build/buy to lock and unlock doors/gate and to move some stuff. However when i clicked on the build/buy  on the build section, all that opened were the logos on the left that you can click on and that shows the different categories of items, like kitchen items, or appliances, or plumbing or and living room items. However the display on the left was missing so i couldnt see any of the images of the items. Then i clicked on the live mode button and waited but it didn't change to live mode even though the buttons would light up whenever i put the cursor over them. So I went to Task Manager and opened the processes bar to check on the sims 3, and saw that the memory being used by the game was frozen. So I left clicked on the sims 3 on task manager processes, and i clicked end process. Then the game closed and I tried to open it again, but everytime I open it, it freezes on the black screen, before the ea clip, then goes the sims 3 (not responding). How do I fix this?
