hi i also have the same issue i only have three resolution options and i have a mac 2020 edition
@ffmnn After changing the resolution, the game should ask if you want to keep these settings. Are you clicking yes, but the resolution reverts anyway? Or are you not seeing that prompt at all? Additionally, how long does it take for the resolution to revert, if it changes at all?
Please also list the resolution options you see in-game and the one that Sims 3 keeps using even after you change it.

it doesn't change and i do click yes for the resolution to change but nothing happens

also the resolution options are as follows
1920X1200 (16:10)
2048X2080 (16:10)
2560X1600 (16:10)
@ffmnn The resolution should change before you have to click yes; the game is saying it will revert to the original resolution if you don't click the check mark. So is the resolution changing to what you choose and then changing back right away, or is it never changing at all?
At any rate, try editing options.ini, which is in Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 3. Search for 1920 and change it to the horizontal resolution you want (2048 or 2560), then search for 1200 and change it to the vertical resolution you want. Make sure the two options match, as in, you're choosing numbers from the same resolution option the game offers.
As a side note, the second resolution you wrote out, 2048x2080, doesn't have a 16:10 aspect ratio, and the vertical resolution of 2080 isn't possible on your computer anyway. (A 16:10 option would be 2048x1280.) So double-check that in-game before trying to use it.

here is some photos i have of the resolution's
@ffmnn You wrote 2048x2080, which is not a possible resolution. As I wrote, and you can see in your screenshot, the correct resolution is 2048x1280.
Please try editing options.ini as described and let me know what happens.

I tried changing it via the options file to 1440X900 because thats my macs display size and it doesn't work do you have any other solutions.
@ffmnn Instead of using 1440x900, please try one of the resolutions the game itself offers.
Please also try loading the game in fullscreen and windowed modes and let me know whether the change sticks in one or the other.
