Intel(R)UHD graphics

Until 2 weeks ago Sims 3 was running just fine. There seems to have been an update and I now have Intel(R)UHD graphics installed and the colours on the Sims are all over the place.  I`ve tried rolling back to the previous driver and then Sims is ok but other things arent. Is  Intel(R)UHD graphics not compatible with Sims 3 or is there a way to fix this? Any help greatly appreciated, its driving me nuts.

  • StormchildCoA  The various UHD Graphics chips are all technically compatible with Sims 3 in that they should be able to run the game.  How well they run the game depends on the chip in question and which expansions are installed, but what you've described doesn't sound right.

Anyway, please provide a dxdiag.  Click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.

I`ve just tried that and it hasn`t made any difference.   If it helps, this,   Device PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_9A78&SUBSYS_15CC1043&REV_01\3&11583659&0&10 requires further installation.  Comes up in the drivers events window.

and this is how the colour wheel comes up in the game.

  • StormchildCoA  Please do a clean uninstall and reinstall of the driver, as described here:

    https://crinrict.com/blog/2019/02/clean-re-install-of-graphics-drivers-with-display-driver-uninstaller-ddu.html

When you restart but before you go back online, click Windows key-X, open the Device Manager, expand the Display Adapters section, right-click the UHD Graphics entry, select Properties > Driver, and make sure driver version 32.0.101.6632 is installed.  If it's not, let me know what you see.  If possible, keep your computer offline and post here with a different device.

Hi, Ive done all of that now. The driver version shows up as being correct but the problem in the Sims is still the same. I had to go back online as I cant open the Sims without an internet connection. any other ideas?

  • StormchildCoA  Going back online is fine; I only meant that you should check the driver version first to confirm that the driver was installed, and before being online where Windows would have a chance to install a different driver for you if the one you wanted didn't install correctly.

For the issue itself, please try playing in windowed mode.  Switch at the Main Menu, then quit to desktop before opening a save.

If that doesn't help, please try playing in a clean boot:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/how-to-perform-a-clean-boot-in-windows-da2f9573-6eec-00ad-2f8a-a97a1807f3dd

The one service to leave enabled is the EABackgroundService, which the EA App needs in order to run.  Disable the rest as described.

When you reboot your computer, go through the Task Manager's background processes list shutting down any service that doesn't absolutely need to be running, for example anything from MSI Afterburner to RGB software might still be enabled.  If you accidentally kill a critical process and it doesn't restart on its own, just reboot your computer again.

Don't open anything other than Sims 4 and the EA App while testing, not even a browser window.

If this helps, you can selectively reenable services until you find the culprit, then either leave that disabled or (if it belongs to an app you want to keep using) let me know what it is so we can try to fix the underlying issue.

If this doesn't help either, please post a couple of screenshots taken (in windowed mode) with the snipping tool (Windows key-shift-S).  I'd like more clear screenshots and also want to see whether the problem is present in those screenshots as well as on the screen.

Well, it seems like it is quite happy to work in windowed mode with all of my old settings. I can live with that. Wish I`d tried it  2 weeks ago before reinstalling just about everything.   Thanks so much for all of your help. I was ready to throw the laptop out of the window. 🤣
