Into the Future/ Emit not appearing

I recently bought the sims 3 into the future expansion pack. The portal shows and I have my sim "inspect it" but Emit doesn't show and I cannot cancel the action and eventually I am forced to reset my sim. I restarted my game, made a new family, and even re installed all of my sims, but it still does the same thing. I cannot go into the future if Emit doesn't show. :/
