I've purchased Sims 3 Plus Supernatural and can't download free content Zombies Pack

I originally bought the Sims 3 from a friend and could not register it because he already had.  Ok, I get that, so I purchased the Sims 3 Plus Supernatural from the Origin store.  It installed the games without a problem, but it also gave me this with the instructions:

Origin Exclusive Plants vs. Zombies™ Décor Pack

Serial Number: xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx
Here’s how to redeem your Origin Exclusive item:
1. Install your The Sims 3 game first.
2. Register your game with The Sims 3 Community if you haven’t already by going to www.thesims3.com/register in your browser or clicking the
“Sign Up Now” button on the Game Launcher. You will receive a code to redeem your exclusive content.
3. Go to http://www.thesims3.com/incentive/supernaturalorigin and enter the unique code you received from Origin in the field on the right.
4. Once your code is entered, you’ll see a link to install the item from your Purchase History page (found on store.thesims3.com). Locate the item
on your Purchase History page and click install*. This will launch the game and install your item.
*It may take up to 5 minutes for the item to appear on your Purchase History page.

However if I try to get the content through the Origin launcher it tells me that I have no games registered with the Community and to go to the website.  When I go to the website - it won't register the games with the codes origin gave me.  Tells me invalid codes.  If I try to input the code for the Decor pack - it also tells me invalid code.  Good god, what now please....I give up.

The community states that I have no games registered.
