[Mac] - Sims 3 won't start after i press play on the launcher

I recently put Sims 3 on my macbook air along with the following expansion/stuff packs:

Island Paradise

Seasons

Pets

Generations

University

Showtime

Ambitions

World Adventures

Late Night

High-End Loft

I had just the base game installed before but i uninstalled it after it kept crashing. Now every time i press play on origin the launcher pops up and i press play on there but nothing happens. I was able to get on before and it will either freeze or crash. Idk what to do. Please Help.

About My Mac:

OS X Yosemite

Version 10.10.2

13-inch, Early 2014

1.4 GHz Intel Core i5

4GB 1600 MHz DDR3

Intel HD Graphics 50001536MB

The simple answer is that your Mac just can't handle all those EPs installed. The Sims 3 is a very intense, resource hungry game, especially on Macs due to EA having used Cider to make it 'compatible' in OS X. Pets and Seasons are especially demanding. Showtime isn't much better either.

MacBook Airs are not designed for gaming, they are not really powerful enough. And whilst you may be able to play the base game on all low settings, with memories turned off, when you start adding in EPs and/or up your graphics settings the game will just give up.

You should also update Yosemite to 10.10.5, the latest release.

I am having the same issue, but with the base game only. On a Mac that literally arrived in the mail yesterday.

If you have a brand new Mac your problem is most likely incompatible graphics.

What Mac do you have? If you have a Mac with any of the following graphics the game is not compatible:

      • Intel Iris (Late 2013 and onwards Retina 13" MacBook Pros, entry level iMacs and entry level 15" MacBook Pro)
      • Intel HD 6000 (Early 2015 model MacBook Airs)
      • AMD Radeon R9 M370X (Mid 2015 high spec. 15" MacBook Pro)

You can try the workaround here, using the relevant details for your graphics card.

I just bought an Macbook Air, but it does appear to have the Intel HD Graphics 6000. What would you suggest?

Trying the workaround in the link I posted in my previous post. Your game will not play unless you can get the game to recognise your graphics card.

So it's kind of working! Ok, you need to now regularly purge RAM during gameplay. I think you will probably always have problems because your MBA isn't powerful enough for the game but at least we can try and minimise the frequency 🙂

  • I have an iMac and I'm having the same problem. Here's what I have:

    MacOS Sierra Version 10.12.6

    iMac 27-inch, Late 2012

Processor: 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7

    Memory: 16GB 1600 MHz DDR3

Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX 2048 MB

Is it possible that there's not enough RAM (memory) to run everything?
