    Hi Jake,

The problem with playing TS3 on a Mac is that it isn't always very stable and problems can come and go. If you were using an older save file, then there could be accumulated problems in that save. However since you are starting a brand new game when this happens and you haven't changed any other factors (such as installing new content, mods, CC, or patching or updating something), then I think it is either a RAM issue or something corrupt in your game setup or possibly the particular world you are using.

Which world are you trying to play in?

When the game crashes, just it just close down or do you get any error messsages?

If you are using CAS at the beginning of the play session, that can really hog the RAM and it will often crash the game either while you are still using CAS or shortly afterwards. If I want to make some new sims, I load up the game and use CAS, while frequently purging the RAM, then save the sims to the library. After that I quit the game and restart everything before actually starting to play. If I go out of CAS and then try to use the sims straightaway, the graphics freak out and then it crashes and I get an error message. So it is possible that if you are making new sims at the start of a new game, this might be the problem you are having too.

Just the world installed, i cant really choose. Normally just closes down but sometimes apple pops up saying it closed down and sent a report. Thanks for the advice i will try it 🙂

OK, so you just have the base game then and are playing in Sunset Valley. You can let it send the crash logs to Apple but I doubt anything will come of it. Can you go into Documents, then look in the folder called 'Electronic Arts' and then 'The Sims 3'. That folder contains all the files related to playing your game. Drag that whole 'The Sims 3' folder out of that location and keep it on your desktop. The game, when you next play it, will generate a new folder. Don't worry - you can always put the old folder back so you won't lose anything. This procedure sort of 'resets' the game without you having to do a fresh installation. That way if there is any corruption or problem with your current setup, it should remove it. See if it works better now. Also don't forget to purge the RAM manually using the method I linked to in a previous post.

I moved the folder to my desktop and started thr game again, it looked like it was about to load but then it crashed and the report came up to send to apple. I tried it again and its back to normal, crashing before it loads. I sudo purged each time, the free GB rises but doesnt seem to work...

Oh dear. That's a shame - it seemed quite hopeful for a moment. I'm not sure what is going on. If it used to work and now has stopped, that would suggest that something has changed since it last worked, but who knows what. If you haven't updated/patched/installed something new, then I'm not sure what it could be.

It remains possible that you are simply running out of free memory, but if manually purging the RAM does not fix this then I don't know what else to try.

It is possible that there is something wrong in your game setup, such as a bad file or corruption, but by dragging out the folder to the desktop to reset it, we have already tried that trick and found nothing.

Do you frequently restart your Mac? I know a lot of people who just put it to "sleep" and never really close it down propertly. I usually restart it before playing Sims, as it seems to enjoy a nice tidy computer environment to run the game. That and of course purge the RAM.

If that doesn't work then I am sorry to say that I am out of ideas other than (A) to completely uninstall and then reinstall, to see if this helps, or 🍺 to try posting at the sims3.com in the Mac sub-section of the forums to see if someone more expert than me can help you. If you do decide to post there, make it clear that you have already tried the tips in the Mac help thread linked below, otherwise you are likely to just be directed there straight away.

If you decide to try a new install, here are the directions.

When you uninstall TS3 games on your Mac using the uninstaller, the game leaves behind stray files and isn't completely removed from your computer. These files may conflict with future installations. It is best to completely remove them. BluebellFlora's website provides a guide on how to do this:

    http://bluebellflora.com/the-sims-3-on-a-mac/how-to-do-a-clean-uninstall-and-reinstall-on-a-mac/

After cleanly uninstalling, install the base game and patch it up to date. If you cannot update via the Launcher, download and apply the latest cumulative manual patch (called the superpatch) for Mac.

Check that your game works properly. Then install any EPs and SPs that you own, in order of release date.
