[MAC] Sims 3 won't start!

Hi everyone,

I paid for and downloaded Sims 3 on Mac on Friday from Origin. I followed the download process correctly, however, when I go to open the game, it just doesn't work. 

Two Sims icons will appear in my dock, one ⚽ will just be the Sims logo appearing large on my screen, which i cannot 'quit.' I have also waited ages for something to happen but nothing did.

The other will load to the Sims start page, with the 'play' button, i click this and then it will say 'Sims 3 quit unexpectedly' and thats it. 

I have been saving to buy sims as i am a student, so any advice would be great as i feel disappointed that money has been spent on ...well nothing haha.
