Sounds like it's bugged.
I can understand that you don't want to drop out but I would try if that works for testing purposes. I mean if they are in a loop anyways, you'll be doing it over and over anyways.
Save your game under a different name as backup and then try if you actually can drop out.

Hi, thanks for the reply.
I tried that but whenI get back 'home' my sim just stands there and there's no picture on the left for my sim or an other family members that they are returning home to, and also there is no sim panel on the right to see their needs etc.
I guess this is not a viable option.
Any other suggestions?

Guess the save game is corrupted then
