You may have figured out a solution now, but my game was really buggy so I reinstalled the base game. With everything still in it (expansion packs and mods) the game wouldn't let me patch my game. By going into Electronic Arts<Sims 3, I removed my Mods folder then tried to update the game again. It worked, so I suggest removing your cc and mods to the desktop until the game is finished updating. I think the mods were too updated after I reinstalled my game and it conflicted when I tried to update the base game. I hope this helps someone in the future.
