New player!!
Hello, I’m a new player of the sims(exciting). I’m looking at downloading the sims 3, already paid.
my laptop has 1TB storage so it has enough. Roughly 880GB left. I want to download my games etc. the sims wants to download to Program Files and Steam wants to download to Program Files x86.
my question is, (I have OCD) so messy files every is triggering lol. Can I create separate folders on my laptop for my games. Example, EA games folder and then have say the sims 3 and whichever folders for that. My steam folder and any steam games etc.
one last question, what would be the best way to save, story and install mods and ccs? Can these be within a sims folder under EA games?
@zkrjxy5w5s3s Are you installing Sims 3 through Steam or the EA App? Either way, you can install the game into almost any folder you like; it's just that each app has a default install location for its games. But the files need to go somewhere, and you can't install Steam and EA App games into the same one folder. You could however have one Games folder with subfolders for EA App and Steam games.
Sims 3 will also create a user folder in Documents > Electronic Arts. This holds saves, mods, saved households and builds, etc. You can direct this folder elsewhere too if you want, by creating a symbolic link. If you want help with that, I'd need to know exactly where you want the data, as in, the full file path to the folder that will hold it. This cannot be the same folder that holds the game's program files.
As an example, maybe you want all your games in one folder called Games, and you set it up like this:
C > Games > EA Games > The Sims 3
> The Sims 4/other EA game
> Steam Library > various Steam games
> Electronic Arts > The Sims 3 [holds user data]
You don't need to do this, but if you like the organization, it only takes a little time to set up and then maintains itself. To be clear, the Electronic Arts folder always contains the Sims 4 user folder and would normally be in Documents; this is an example of how the overall structure would look if you wanted to move user data elsewhere. You could move only the Sims 3 folder, or the Electronic Arts folder it's in; either one is a valid approach.
Here's how to install mods and .package-based custom content:

I would always recommend using custom content in .package form, not .Sims3Pack, whenever possible. It's easier to install, it's easier to remove, and it doesn't bog down the Sims 3 launcher. Hunting down bad cc can be a whole project when you've installed it through the launcher but is simple when you're looking for a .package file.
For storing extra mods or cc you want to use at some point but not now, I'd simply make an extra folder, called whatever you want (but not "The Sims 3"), and dump everything in there. In the example above, you could create a folder called "Sims 3 extra mods" inside "Sims data" so the folder is handy when you need it but doesn't interfere with your existing user content.
