I can't wait til all this is fixed :-(. I noticed (and so did a few others) that oddly enough when I log in to my account the sound is a little more constant. By log in I mean at the main menu. I wonder if it has any correlation?

I completely agree with all that you stated in your original post. In fact, I was working a major overhaul to this thread while you were posting your comment.
I first started this thread a couple of hours into the first few postings about the no sound issue. While I have yet to encounter this issue on any of my current computers, I was able to reproduce the problem on a computer that I pulled out from my island of misfit toys by installing a stock audio driver. Before the stock driver, the sound was perfect, but immediately after installation I experienced the no sound bug. When I updated the driver, the sound issue went away, and still has not return. However, I did all this testing on the release day, and as time went on and the reports came in, I came to the realization that this was definitely more than a simple driver update and most definitely a game issue.
I have made many changes now to reflect the situation as it stands today. Tomorrow I will be rolling back to the stock driver once more, so that I can look for in-game triggers of the no sound bug as many players report the sound coming and going and being better on some days than others.
Rambling aside I always appreciate your insightful feedback and astute observations, and thank you for bringing the situation concerning logging into 'my account' during gameplay to my attention. I will definitely experiment with that to see what I observe. If you come across anything else, please post here letting us know. :)
