I think ErrorTrap and Overwatch are essential. They help to keep your game healthy and you don't need to do anything to set them up. You will occasionally get notifications from them while in-game and they'll also produce reports that you can see in your Sims 3 folder.
MasterController (and some of it's modules) is very handy for changing and fixing things in your game.
Which other Nraas mods you get depends on your play style. I recommend reading the documentation for each one.
Personally, I have the following: AntiMagicScroll, Cupcake, ErrorTrap, MasterController (plus the Cheats and Integration modules), Mover, Overwatch, PortraitPanel, Register, Relativity, StoryProgession (plus the Career, Population and Relationship modules), Traffic, and Traveler.
I also have the W... mod, but we can't talk about that on this forum.
