Opportunities not being fulfilled/completed - High End Loft Stuff

Hi,  I'm currently playing Sims 3: High-End Loft EP. I'm in the Sunset Valley neighbourhood.  I'm having a lot of trouble completing any opportunities. For example, one of my sims is in the journal...

    First thing to try is to let the game recreate new user files. That solves a lot (I refer to that as factory reset) and if all fails, reinstall the game but errors like yours would surprise me if they need a reinstall.

    Could you please accept a solution so people see that this is solved.

In the new game all opportunities are working - hooray! 🙂 so I presume it is savegame related.

Just out of curiosity (and if you have time to answer!), what do you have to do if it is a corruption on the whole game?
