Patch Update Errors- Sims 3

I'm really wanting to update my game so I can download store content and other CAW Worlds made by others, but every time I try to update from my game launcher it freezes up then reads 'The Sims 3 Launcher Not Responding'. This is every single time i've tried to download a new patch 1.55 & 1.57. I've tried signing in while doing so and still nothing. The current patch I do have is 1.50 I recently bought the University expansion pack (the only current expansion I have) that downloaded the latest patch for me,could this be a reason to why it wont download?

Has anyone else had this problem?
