I have had this issue for a while now. I have windows 8, I finally figured out that turning the computer to airplane mode, and then once origin pops up you sign in anyway and click "sign in as invisible" and it works, hope this helps somebody!
My internet is going to be shut off for a couple weeks because I need to pay a hefty speeding fine. I can't imagine why Internet Connection is required after verification. I've tried launching Sims 3 after disconnecting my current working internet , and couldn't find a way to launch the game. Sure Origins launches, and I can select to launch Sims but gives me an error.
I purchased Sims over a year ago, and have always played it with working internet. I'm afraid without the internet for a while, I won't be able to play Sims. A long road awaits me, a long dark road of uncertainty.
Also I purchased the CD-ROM version of the game, as well as the CD-ROM copies of the expansions.
My PC isn't to blame either...
