Problems with Origin Screwing up old EA Games i have purchased
- 5 years ago
@kiss121768 If Origin detects a disc-based install of Sims 3, it will try to patch that install to 1.69, forcing the game to launch through Origin and implementing the pack selector. If your install isn't already on patch 1.67, the newest one available for disc, it's also possible that the patching process will break.
Normally, any store content, e.g. the roller coaster, should still work, but because store items are encrypted, this can break too, requiring that the store stuff be installed from scratch. This doesn't mean reinstalling the game, just the set of store items.
There is no way to play Sims 4 without Origin on your computer, and Origin will always try to patch Sims 3. So it might be easier to simply install Sims 3 through Origin and not worry about it. If you'd rather stay with a disc install though, you'll need to disable automatic game updates within Origin (Application settings > Application > Client update) AND watch Origin carefully to cancel any Sims 3 download it tries to start. This will most likely happen after Origin updates itself, but keep an eye on it regardless. You can also run Origin in offline mode, which will of course prevent it from downloading anything.
If you need help reinstalling your store content, let me know.
