Did you manually remove the user folder ? I don't know how well the automatic removal works.

So the only suggestion I have is this:

Hmm...well it didn"t work but thank-you for the advice.

Does it also happen in new games or just existing ones ?

New games.  It happened without me ever having saved a game or creating a family when I reinstalled it after a clean wipe.  The only time it wasn't there is when I installed the base game and did not add any patches.

No idea, really.

I don't have a solution either, but I thought I'd share a similar issue I've had.  

I've had corrupted thumbnails that would show the wrong colors, specifically with trying to save different wallpapers in Create-A-Style, and I've had all black thumbnail problems for store content.  Both of these go away though, when I delete the Thumbnail cache so a fresh install should've fixed it.  Hope your game works better soon.
