I just don't have it anymore, I think I damaged it a long time ago. I definitely would have played the game before the 64 bit update with the naga just fine, as well as all of my other EA games, so it would surprise me if that was the reason.
@kiraanette Maybe the Razer software updated, maybe you updated your OS, or maybe the issue is an Origin update. You could try disabling the Origin in-game overlay, just in case it helps. Hover over your username, select Application Settings, then the Origin in-game header, and disable the option at the top.
If you have any other overlays running, e.g. Steam or Discord, please disable those too.
I tried with a mouse and my trackpad and I still cannot get passed the in-game launcher where it shows my household. I am unable to click anything it is stuck on the pop-up where it shows what mod scripts where found (I removed all mods and it still wouldn't let me click anything)
@desia2003 Did you ever try switching between fullscreen and windowed mode, specifically by editing options.ini? You can right-click on the file and select Open With > TextEdit, and you should be able to edit it to set fullsecreen to 0 or 1. Please try both and let me know whether either one helps.
Please also post the full specs of your Mac, everything under About This Mac except for the serial number.
Hi, I tried it in fullscreen since I was in windowed after changing the options and it still didn't work ☹️ My Mac specs are
macOS Big Sur
version 11.2.3
MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2020, Two Thunderbolt 3 ports)
Processor 1.4 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5
Memory 8 GB 2133 MHz LPDDR3
Graphics Intel Iris Plus Graphics 645 1536 MB
I never had a problem with this until upgrading to 64bit sadly
@puzzlezaddict sorry forgot to @ you!
@desia2003 Do you use any accessibility settings on your Mac? Do you have any other apps (e.g. Discord) running in the background while you play? Please try playing with nothing else running, aside from Origin of course.
If you use accessibility settings and don't want to change them, you can try playing in a new admin user account on your Mac. Don't import settings (of any kind) from your existing account or change the default settings in any way; don't sign in with your Apple ID either. You'll be able to login to Origin using your existing account, but your Sims 3 saves and other data won't be available.
Even if you're not sure your Mac has any relevant settings that might be interfering, the new user account would be the next step, so please try it regardless. But if you do know of a setting that could be a problem, please let me know.
- @puzzlezaddict Hi! So I'm not sure what accessibility settings I should list but I do think I have some, I tried a new account and it worked on there and let me click
@desia2003 Okay, then you know that the issue is some setting you have in your normal user account that you don't have in the other. If you like yoru settings the way they are, you can leave everything as-is and just switch user accounts when you want to play. Otherwise, try changing one setting at a time in the new account until you notice a problem.
- @puzzlezaddict Ok, I tried to open sims back up but it wont open! I get to the first launcher where it has the big play button on the left but when I press it it brings me back to origin
@desia2003 Is this in the new user account or the old one?
- @puzzlezaddict the old one
@desia2003 Okay, I'm not sure why that's happening, but please check the new user account and see whether you can play there. That would be one of the suggestions anyway because it's a good way to narrow down the cause of the problem.
- @puzzlezaddict I logged into the second admin account and it opens fine there
@desia2003 Okay, if you'd like to troubleshoot in your main account, try moving the entire Sims 3 user folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop. If you still can't open the game, take your computer offline: you can sign into Origin and put it in offline mode, then disable wifi and/or disconnect the ethernet cable before playing.
I'm happy to keep troubleshooting with your main user account for as long as you want. But if at any point you get frustrated and just want to play, there's nothing wrong with using the second account instead.
- @puzzlezaddict Thank you, I really would like to try to get it to work on my main account. I moved the folder and it wouldn't open so I tried to turn it offline and it wasn't opening either
@desia2003 Try disabling Origin in-game: hover over your username, select Application Settings, then the Origin in-game header, and disable the option at the top.
If that doesn't help, do you have iCloud set to automatically sync the contents of Documents? If you're not sure, please check; if auto syncing is enabled, please disable it. This guide is for a different issue, but the relevant settings are the same:
https://bluebellflora.com/2017/02/06/sims-3-and-sims-4-not-loading-save-games/
If that doesn't help either, do you have an antivirus or a cleaner app on your Mac? Do you use some other service that syncs data, e.g. Dropbox? Anything that's active on your main user account but not the new one might be relevant.
- @puzzlezaddict Hi! So I went to go disable origin in game, turns out it was already disabled so I tried it enabled and it didn't work. I had the documents unchecked but I had to uncheck the optimize Mac storage option. It wouldn't open after I tried these. As far as I know I do not have any antivirus or cleaning apps on my Mac nor do I have dropbox
@desia2003 Okay, now with the settings changed, please move the Sims 3 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts again and see whether the game opens. If it does not, please let me know whether you get a new Sims 3 folder and what's inside it. (A screenshot would be great.)
