Re: The sims 3 64-bit and metal realese game errors

@thekve  If you're getting the "Error downloading content," please try this:

https://answers.ea.com/t5/Technical-Issues-Mac/Problems-installing-Sims3Packs-TS3-64-bit/m-p/9665254#error0

For the fullscreen issue, is the game running in windowed mode, or in fullscreen but with black bars covering part of the screen?  If windowed mode, does clicking cmd-enter do anything?  Please try it both at the Main Menu and in-game.  If not, you can edit options.ini to enable or disable fullscreen.  The file is in Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 3, and you can change the fullscreen value (cmd-F to find it) to 0 or 1 as you like.

If you're seeing black bars but the game is technically running in fullscreen, please change the resolution to something higher than 1024x768.  It may help to switch to windowed mode before changing resolutions.  When playing in fullscreen, be sure to choose a resolution that matches the aspect ratio of your laptop's screen.

    Hello!
    Thanks for answering.

No it is running only in windowed mode, and I tried to go to settings to fix it but I did not find the "fullscreen" button.

I tried the cmd-F but did not work either...

    Tried every resulotion there is...

  • @thekve  Cmd-enter is the command to switch back and forth between fullscreen and windowed modes.  Once in windowed—where you can actually see your desktop in the background, not just black bars—try changing the resolution.

Cmd-F is for finding the fullscreen value in options.ini, so you can edit it directly.

@martgeel  You're already in fullscreen mode.  Hit cmd-enter to switch to windowed mode, then change the in-game resolution to what you want, then cmd-enter again to change back to fullscreen mode.

A new update for the sims 3 64bit came today, so I finally now got to switch it to fullscreen mode.

    But still;
My game freezes all the time.

And when traveling; the game kind of freezes completely...

  • @thekve  Traveling has always been an issue.  There are mod-related ways to (usually) fix the travel transition, and non-mod-related ways to try.  Let me know if you'd like more information on either.

As for the rest of the freezing, is there any pattern to when it happens, like your sims are doing something in-game, you go to Map View, etc.?

The problem with the freezing often occurs when I am doing an adventure; and going to the "basements".

In Bridgeport this happens as well; especially when I get an notification on like if I meet new people...?

Is there any way to fix this?

  • @thekve  My game tends to freeze for a couple seconds when my sim triggers a hidden staircase to open.  I've seen this on multiple computers, in both Windows and macOS, so I don't think it's avoidable, at least not completely.  If the game just freezes briefly and then resumes, I wouldn't worry about it.  If the game doesn't recover from the freeze, then you might need to temporarily lower your in-game settings, at least while your sims are exploring tombs.

I guess you could edit the tombs to replace the hidden staircases with regular ones instead, but you probably don't want to have to do all that work, and additionally spoil the surprise element either.  When in build or buy mode, you'd see all the tricks and traps as well.

For the freezing in Bridgeport, same question: does the game freeze temporarily or permanently?  Does it help if you disable the celebrity options?  I'm trying to imagine what might be special about meeting sims in Bridgeport that wouldn't necessarily be true in other worlds.

I'm also curious what hardware you have and what settings you're using.  Please attach your deviceconfig.log, in Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 3.  You'll neeed to manually open the folders; the file won't show up in a search.  You can delete your user and computer names, about 25 lines down, but there's nothing else in that file that can identify you.

In the traveling it is permanently freeze. It is not when I find a hidden staircase or unlocks any other feature in the adventures. This happens while I am trying to only walk.

The Bridgeport is more temporary. But still, it is more than a few seconds...

I have played the sims 3 on multiple computers, and this has never occurred.

I am now using my MacBook Pro (13 inch) 2020 8GB, 1,4 GHz four-core Intel Core i5 with Intel Iris Plus Graphics 645 1536 MB.

It is updated to the newest macOS Catalina - version 10.15.7 (19H15).

The sims 4 runs completely smooth, with no problems and faster than ever (I dowloaded that after my sims 3 64-bit and metall was freezing).

I have also tried to lower my settings. Nothing works haha.

  • @thekve  Have you specifically tried to play in windowed mode though?  That often seems to help when lowering the settings alone does not.

Please also try playing with no other applications (aside from Origin) running on your Mac.

Yeah, have already answered u on that.

It worked now with the new update, so I have tried to play in windowed mode.

I never have any other applications running while playing the sims.

  • @thekve  I'm sorry, I don't know what else to tell you about World Adventure tombs.  They're pretty demanding from a graphics perspective; I see pauses and low fps all the time, even with a dedicated graphics card.  It would be useful to know which tombs or other lots cause this issue, in case there's something on them that's especially problematic to render, for example an electricity trap or random fire.
