Save file will not load

I created a custom world using the create a world tool and started building in the world in the game (not through the edit in game button in CAW, through the actual sims game). It was going fine for days until yesterday when I created a festival lot that displayed fine while editing the lot but when in live mode all the seasonal objects overlapped at once. While trying to fix that issue I placed a family into the town and changed the season/sped up time to the next sim day when the festival would arrive (as suggested by someone on a forum). This didn't work so I exited to the main menu without saving as I didn't do anything important. The save file then would not load, it gets to about a fifth of the way through the loading bar and then the game completely closes without any error message or freezing. I had 4 lots that took quite a while that I didn't save to my library, so I'm desperate to get the save file back so I don't have to build them again.

I've tried a lot of things to fix it such as using the backup file, making sure my graphics card and FPS are compatible with the game and changing what needed to be changed using the NVIDIA control panel. I also removed the old sims 3 folder and let the game generate a new one, removed all CC, deleted cache files, updated both Origin and my computer, and used Origin's repair tool on the game. I've basically tried everything I could find on forums of similar issues. I don't know what would cause the issue other than that festival lot because the game was running perfectly before I built it, but obviously I can't get into the save file to remove the lot. My other save files load just fine, and the folders for this save don't say .bad or anything out of the ordinary.

I'd be very grateful for any help.

  • @primadonna-pink  It sounds like something corrupted this particular save beyond repair, unfortunately.  But one other possibility is that the installation of your custom world is corrupt.  Have you tried installing that world in a clean Sims 3 folder and loading the save or its backup in that folder?  You mentioned letting the game create a new user folder, but I'm not sure from your description whether you reinstalled the custom world or just moved over its .world file.

Other than that, you can try swapping some files around within the save folders.  Create a new save in the same custom world, save your progress, quit to desktop, open the folder for that new save, and delete the .nhd file inside.  Copy over the .nhd file from the corrupt save or its backup and see whether it loads.  If it does, I wouldn't count on this working for long, but you'll probably be able to at least save the lots you created.
