Script Error on Sims 3

I downloaded Sims 3 and all of my extensions onto my computer after I had to reset it. Before the reset, the game worked fine. Now, when I open the launcher, it gives me a script error. This started after updating the game.

If I click "no," it won't let me begin the game. If I click "yes," it lets me open the game but it black screens and then just goes back to my desktop. The Sims tab is visible on my start bar but I can't open it or close it without going into the task manager.

Now, it won't even open the launcher and the "play" button is not clickable from Origin, and the desktop shortcut is not working either. None of the questions and answers about script errors I have been able to find have helped because everybody else says that they can still play the game even though the script error pops up, but I can't.

Oh, I'm on a PC with Windows 8 if that matters.

What does the message say in detail ? As you say, it should not matter for the game itself since it's a launcher error.

    Could you post this info:

    1. Click on Start and then type the following into the search prompt at the bottom: perfmon /rel
    2. Press Enter to proceed.
    3. A window will open and in there you can click on the red circles with a white X.
    4. After clicking the X, the info on the bottom will update. Choose the Sims 3 Critical Event one and right click on it and choose "View Technical Details"
    5. Now on the next window, choose Copy to clipboard at the very bottom and post this into a reply to us here.

I'm having the exact same issue. This is what my error message says:

    Unable to start game

    Service instalation failed (0x039e8474)

And I don't know if it matters but I'm playing The Sims 3 Ambitions Expansion Pack

When I go into the reliability history, all it gives me as critical events on the days I had the problems are that "Windows didn't shut down correctly" and "microsoft.windowscommunications stopped responding and was closed." There's nothing about the Sims.

Did you try hitting repair on Origin yet (right click on the game) ?
