Sims 3 : Screen suddenly goes black when I play game for a while

I have this issue for quite sometime, I am not sure Is it my game or my computer problem but my computer is fine even whenever I worked on program like Ai or Pr but It's not fine when I played the sims 3.

I can play for about 20-30 minutes and screen goes to black. Sometime I still can control my sim but I can't do anything. At first, I thought It was some mods that might cause it but I tried remove all mod but It still went black and pop up as "d-sub no signal entering the power saving mode shortly" which I was already fix a months ago.

Thank you

  • @srpnizz  This particular error is an access violation, meaning that Sims 3 tried to access a memory address in a way that's not allowed.  When Windows detects this behavior, it shuts down the application.

The issue is that access violations are extremely common and a very broad category.  They can be caused by anything from bad mods or custom content to an in-game bug to going over the game's memory limit to a hardware issue with your computer.  The place to start is with mods and cc: if you currently have any at all other than NRaas mods, remove all the content and see what happens.  That can include cc that you've used for a long time—an item might only become a problem when it's assigned to the wrong sim.

Please also let me know what was happening in-game when you got the black screen, not only that you were in live mode but what your sims were doing and what sim-time of day it was.

Here is my information in second solution:

@srpnizz  Do you know how to switch to using onboard graphics?  With some motherboards, it's as simple as plugging the monitor into the board (instead of the graphics card, as you currently have) and restarting the computer.  With other boards, you'd need to boot into BIOS and enable the integrated/onboard graphics first.  If you have no idea how to do this, you can just try plugging the monitor into the motherboard, and if you get no signal even after a restart, plug the monitor back into the graphics card.

My question here is whether the graphics card itself is the cause of the problem, which can be difficult to determine.  The easiest way to test is by using a different card; using the onboard graphics works in the same way.  But if you can't get the integrated graphics chip to work at all, we can put that aside for now.

The other question is whether the game itself is crashing when you have this issue, or whether the cause is something else .  Your dxdiag does list a couple of Sims 3 crashes, but it's not clear when those happened.  So the next time you get a black screen, please look for a corresponding entry in the Reliability Monitor.  Hit Windows key-R and enter "perfmon /rel" without quotes, and you'll see a chart of errors and updates with a column for each day.  Today is on the right.

Look for an error that has a timestamp from exactly when the black screen happened, within a couple of minutes at most.  If you find one, right-click on the error name, select "View technical details," copy the info, and paste it here.  Don't worry if the information is in Thai; I should be able to pick out the relevant details and use a translator where necessary.  Please keep in mind that the Reliability Monitor only updates every hour or so—if you check before launching the game, then get a black screen a few minutes later, you may need to wait an hour to see whether any error was associated with that particular black screen.

I don’t understand anything inside CPU but the last time I change anything inside which I just moved around some plugs and my computer couldn’t turn on so I’m quite afraid to change a thing.

But as soon as I got the time to open the game, I’ll note every time It crashes and try to do the solution that you’ve suggested. I’ll come back with update, Thank you.

@srpnizz  Just to clarify, you wouldn't be opening up the computer here.  All you'd do is unplug the monitor from the back of the computer and plug it into a different slot.  The graphics card slots are horizontal and about halfway between the top and bottom of the computer; the motherboard slots are vertical and closer to the top.  And if you didn't get a signal, you could switch the monitor cable back to its original plug.

Since you're not comfortable messing with your computer, leave the BIOS part alone for now.  But that doesn't involve opening the case either, just changing some basic settings in the motherboard's software.
