Haven't read all of this so not sure if anyone has come up with a fix for the frequent crashing when you have bitdefender installed. I was having this problem, I couldn't play for more than 15 minutes without the Sims 3 crashing. I went into bitdefender, went to settings, general and added all the Sims exclusive expansions I have to the games list and the Sims launcher as well. And I've been playing now for 3.5 hours without a problem. Hopefully this has completely fixed the issue and hopefully it works for other people too.
By the way I have bitdefender total security 2013 not sure if it's the same process for other bitdefender products.
