Do you have a program with which you can monitor the temperature ?
This way you could find out if it is in fact overheating

Thanks for your help, in any case. It's still crashing (windows says "sims 3 has stopped working" now).
There's usually one with the graphics card that tells you how hot it is. Otherwise you can try coretemp (just google)
Is your computer no longer shutting off ? Is it just the game now ?
