sims 3 crashing on macbook pro m4

hello, what the title says. it's my first time trying the sims 3 and i can't get about 8-10 minutes of gameplay in before the app abruptly closes, so i've been stuck still trying to make my sims and without a save file. i'm updated to the latest OS and my mac runs the sims 4 just fine. as of yet i have no cc or mods installed

any help resolving would be appreciated

    pythiagordon​  Please try playing with your computer offline.  You can put the EA App into offline mode, then disable wifi before launching the game.  Even if you wouldn't play like this in general, it's a useful test.
