Sims 3 exorcise objects glitch

I know EA hasn’t bothered to work on fixing/updating the sims 3 since the release of sims 4 but I love playing the sims 3 and so many other people do aswell. I have a family I’m playing, it’s just three roommates and one of them has the ghost hunter profession. The carreer didn’t have any bugs until my sim got promoted to level 3 and I got a job to “exorcise 3 objects” the first time I exorcised the objects the action completed but the ghosts were still in the objects and the “current job box” wasn’t ticked and I could not click the objects that were haunted to try finish the job. So then I looked online to see if I could fix it and someone said to delete my cache files, so I did that. And when I re opened my sims game and went to exorcise the three objects in my sims next work day my sim resets half way through the action. Idk what to do I loved the ghost hunter carreer when it actually worked and I’m so disappointed that this glitch will probably never be fixed😩

  • @soyjia  I know that the career has been bugged for a long time, and I don't think there are any perfect fixes or workarounds.  Even mods don't seem to fully address the profession-related issues that appeared with the later patches.

So, I guess what I'd do if I were in your position, is make a copy of this game (use "save as" and change the name) to preserve the original should you not like the outcome of a particular experiment.  Then I'd start by just trying to level up your ghost hunter sim—I think that gaining logic also gives job experience, even if your sim's not performing a job.  (If skipping work gives a penalty, try asking for time off; I don't remember if you can do this with professions, but it's a cell phone option with rabbithole jobs.)

The next thing I'd do is go to Edit Town, evict the residents of the house where the job is supposed to take place, save that house to the bin, bulldoze the lot and replace the house, and then move the family back in.  As long as you don't replace the lot's residents with copies from the bin, they'll retain their jobs and relationships with other townies.  This process should help if it's just that one or two jobs or lots are bugged.

If the problem turns out to be the ghost hunter, you can try evicting and moving back in your own family in the same way as described above.  Or I suppose you could split the household in Edit Town and just evict and replace the one sim.  If that doesn't work, try moving out that sim, saving, quitting, clearing the cache files, and then reloading and moving the sim back in.  (Again, you can do so in Edit Town so you don't have to go through the work of making friends.)

There are some other steps you can take, like saving your sim to the bin and then replacing the original (don't ever object delete a sim), but hopefully one of the less drastic measures helps you instead.
