Yeah, this seems an issue with the new patch. You need to start the game through Origin now. The shortcut only starts Origin.
Are you trying through the shortcut or play on Origin ?
What's your operating system ?
What symptoms are you seeing (nothing happens, error message, crash) ?

All my Sims games are digital download thru Origin. I have a shortcut on the tool bar which now lights up, then fades. I have windows 7. I can click on Island Paradise (my newest game) thru Origin in my library of games-my game launcher loads and I can play. My Norton Anti-Virus is Norton 360 Premier from 2013.
I also have another question coming about uploads, if you could help me with that. I will post it today.

Its a pain, but it will do. I never got a chance to really thank you for all your help with my last question regarding downloaded sims. That bit of help you gave me really made everything finally make sense to me. Like a lightbulb above the head kind of make sense. I've been asking my husband for years to teach me about computers, but he never has time. You taught me more in those few replies..... Just want you to know I really appreciate all your help and the fact that you never make me feel stupid when you do.
My game won't load at all! I double-click the icon for it, and it loads for a sec and ten just stops! Everything else works fine, but Origin won't start up either s I can't even start my game from there, and I didn't install the latest update either, so I know it can't be that! So what should I do now?!
You should have an Origin icon on your toolbar. Click on it and Origin will open. Choose My games from the top and a new screen will open with a list of your games. Highlight the newest game, (for me it is Island Paradise) and a small box will pop up saying play. Click on play. Minimize the Origin screen of your My games and your game launcher will load and show on your desktop screen. Hope that helps.
If you don't have an Origin Icon on your desktop, you should be able to access Origin from the Start Menu on the bottom left of your tool bar. The process from there should be the same.

My game launcher opens and I clikc play, it looks like the game will open and then nothing happens.
The only thing that worked for me was to do a factory reset. Crinrict has it on her blog site.
To do a factory reset
Clear all your cache files in the Sims3 file.
Copy your sims3 file to a back up. I saved mine to the desktop.
Rename your Sims3 file to Sims3_old
Start up your launcher.
If that worked and your launcher starts up and plays, you might have a corrupt saved game in the Sims 3 file you just renamed as _old.
You will then want to slowly moved back files one at a time. Move a file and then play. See if the game still works. Move your collections folder. Then your user presets. Etc. For more information, check out Crinricts blog site
If you are downloading CC from sites, you will want to check your download folder for bad or corrupt CC. Check out the programs Delphy's Dashboard or Custard which can easily be found on the internet. If you use these programs before doing the factory reset, you may be able to find the corrupt item(s) and delete them from your installed content in the launcher.
