Sims 3 Imaginary Friend Glitch

So I've been playing the Sims 3 for years but recently I started playing again. And my Child sim turned into a Teen but she was off the lot when that happened. So when she got back home She celebrated with her imaginary friend and he turned into a Teen. But I dont know what happened. The sim interface glitched and now it shows my sims face and traits there whenever i click on a different sim. It shows the other sims name but it shows her face and traits. And I dont know how to fix it please help me!!. I've tried to reset her but nothing helps.

  • @MadiiLuvhsYuh  The glitched portraits almost always mean that the save is glitched, and the best thing to do is to revert to a previous save from before this happened.  Even if you don't have one, the game keeps the files from the second to last time you saved.

Go into Saves inside your TS3 game folder (the full path is Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Saves) and find the folder labeled with your save name and a .backup extension.  So if your save is called SunsetValley, you'll see a folder labeled SunsetValley.sims3 and another labeled SunsetValley.sims3.backup.  Delete the .backup extension and rename the folder (e.g. SunsetValley1.sims3), and it will be available to load from the Main Menu.

Before you start the game again, be sure to delete the five cache files in your game folder.  They should be deleted regularly anyway, and every time you quit while you're troubleshooting.  (Some of us delete them every time we quit anyway.)  For reference, they are:

    • CASPartCache.package
    • compositorCache.package
    • scriptCache.package
    • simCompositorCache.package
    • socialCache.package

If this backup is from before the glitch occurred, it's best to use "save as" to rename it yet again, so you'll still have a clean backup if you need it.

If the glitch occurs again, or if the backup save is from after it happened, let me know, and I'll write out some more thorough ways to try to reset the household.

so sorry to dredge this up from the depths but I am having the same issue and my back-up is after my Sim aged up to a teen.. I have no idea what I was thinking just overwriting the save ☹️

  • @akderb  This thread is quite old and I'll lock it here.  Please create your own thread for help, and let me know whether you use mods or would be willing to try a few to fix the issue.  Please also describe what you yourself are currently seeing in-game, as some issues can sound similar but have distinct causes.
