Sims 3 keeps crashing on windows 10

Hello! I bought a brand new Asus Zenbook a few weeks ago. It has 8 GB of Ram, i5 processor 7th gen, and a SSD (can't remember number but it is over 200). I also have Windows 10 installed. Since I don't have a disc drive, I reinstalled my Sims 3 from my Origin account. The game will be fine for about 10 minutes then crashes. I have DirectX 11 and Visual C+ installed. I also made it an exception in my security virus program. My son changed my ram in the options for the game and also changed it to Windows 7 mode to play the game. It still does the same thing. Any help would be great as I want to purchase The Sims 4, but afraid I will have the same problem. Thanks for your help! In addition, I ran this game flawlessly on my old Sony Vaio laptop with Windows 7.

  • Hi @magicmommaof5,

Thanks for your detailed explanation of the problem and what you have tried so far 🙂

I would try to repair the game through Origin to make sure all the files are fine. If one of the files got corrupted during the download or installation, it might be causing the problem.

Also, if you moved your user files from your old computer to this new one, and you were using mods in your game, could you try to remove your mods?

If none of these suggestions help, could you please give us more technical information about your computer? A dxdiag would be very helpful. You can find instructions on how to get a dxdiag here, and you can attach it to your answer.

Thanks, and welcome to Answers HQ! :eahigh_file:

Thank you! I couldn't transfer anything from my old computer because the hard drive crashed, put another one in and it died as well. Bummer! I will check out the Origin files though to see if any are corrupted and give you an update. Thanks again!!!

Ops, @magicmommaof5, forgot to explain how to repair the game, just in case it's the first time you do it: right click on the game and you will see the 'Repair' option 😉

    Good luck!

I repaired the game, but it still does the same thing. I attached the dxdiag to my original post. I have tried everything and still my game keeps crashing.

@magicmommaof5  Check to see if there is an update for the integrated video chip. Check to see if there is an update for the ssd.

    Hi @magicmommaof5,

Did you have time to try to update your system as @roberta591 suggested? 🙂

As one of the errors I can see in your dxdiag is related to the 'MSVCR80.dll' file, I would also recommend running Windows' Resource Checker by following these instructions:

    1. Press the Start button
    2. Type 'cmd' in the search box. Windows will find 'Command Prompt' desktop app - right click on it and select 'Run as administrator'.
    3. A black window will open. Write 'sfc /scannow' and press enter.

Wait until it finishes and let us know the result you get,
