Sims 3 Late Night crashes in Win 8.1 64-bit

The game crashes for me as soon as I get to Sim mode. Performance slows way down, and then the program exits fullscreen mode. The small window is black and won't respond. To try to fix this, I have turned graphics settings down, I've downloaded/installed the latest drivers for GPU, motherboard and chipset, and I've updated to version 1.67. I can send my dxdiag info if someone from EA will contact me. Thanks!

  • Since you only psted part of your DxDiag: Do you also have a chip in there or just the card ? What do you mean by Sim Mode ? CAS or live mode ? Is your game updated to 1.67 ?

  • Thanks, Crin. I think I meant "live mode", once I've left Edit Town, chosen my household, playing with the Sim. I am updated to v 1.67. I'm not sure what you meant by chip or just the card. My motherboard does have integrated graphics and I've been assuming that it's automatically disabled because I have the GPU card installed with drivers. But maybe I should check the BIOS to make sure it's disabled. Is there anything additional from the DXdiag that might be useful?

  • Here's an error report I got from msinfo32:

You should not have to turn your graphics down. I have the 770M card. Im wondering if it has to do with 8.1. We had other people in here with your same kind of issue with 780 card on windows 8.1 --I have windows 8 and game is running fine and I will not update to 8.1.  Did you buy this computer 8.1 or you changed from windows 8 to 8.1?

Also have you gone into Nvidia control panel under 3d settings scroll down to the bottom make sure your vertical sync is set on adaptive. This game will fry your card if you dont put vsync on.

You also need to get your Nvidia control panel to accept the game file. In Nvidia control pannel you need to add the TS3W file. Through your Nvidia control panel go to computer C, to program files x86, to origin games file, to the sims 3 file to the game file to the bin file. In the bin file you will find the TS3W file and you need to add that to your Nvidia Control Panel.
